Listen to the exclusive and unpublished compilation of several cassette tapes from the 70s, "Esthétique de l'anomalie", by the obscure and incredible Belgian industrial band, Etat Brut. An unmissable compilation refined, curated and produced by our dear supporter, plastic artist and producer of ambient electronic music, Lars Parabol, who will soon bring many special news to us from his magnificent solo work.
Formed in the late 70s, after the explosion of the punk movement, Etat Brut helped define what is known today as industrial music on the European underground scene. With precarious equipment and few musical references, but a lot of attitude, at a time when there were not many easy-to-manipulate devices like today, a pair of physics professors pioneered the Belgian vanguard with their experiments and incredible performances with rudimentary technology to generate noise patterns that sound totally contemporary.
In the typical DIY spirit of the post-Punk era, Etat brut was formed in the late 70s by two physics teachers, both named Philippe. Influenced by Throbbing Gristle, La Monte Young, SPK, NoN, Esplendor Geometrico, Lou Reed's Metal Machine Music and works by English writer JG Ballard, they pioneered the Belgian underground noise/industrial scene with uncompromising sonic experiments and breathtaking performances at legendary Club Moral. This compilation shows their sound is still incredibly modern, considering the rudimentary technology available at the time and the inventiveness they had to deploy when samplers simply didn't exist. They remained active until the mid 80s and left a series of tapes used as raw material for the present album. Their 1982 "Mutations et Prothèses" LP was released by Belgian cult label Sub Rosa in 2012.
